The Certificate of Eligibility is generally issued when one of the following conditions is fulfilled
- The child’s parent holds a Certificate of Eligibility and that parent is a Canadian citizen
- The child’s sibling holds a Certificate of Eligibility and one parent is a Canadian citizen
- The child’s parent is a Canadian citizen and that parent received the majority of his/her schooling in English in Canada
- The child’s parent is a Canadian citizen and their child has received or is receiving English instruction in Canada and that education is the major part of his/her education in Canada; the siblings of this child are also eligible for English instruction
For Kindergarten, the child must be 5 years of age on or before September 30th
For Grade 1, the child must be 6 years of age on or before September 30th
These are the most common situations that allow a child to receive instruction in English. There are other situations which would allow a child to obtain eligibility. The Lester B.
